Harrell “Butch” J. Gilbreath passed away Wednesday, November 19, 2025, at his home in Edna Hill, Texas. He was 88 years old. Visitation will be held at 12:00 noon and Celebration of Life will follow at 2:00pm Wednesday, December 3, 2025, at Harrell Funeral Home in Dublin, Texas. Honorable Jim Clifton will preside, and Internment will follow at the Barbee Cemetery. A gathering will be held following services at Edna Hill Community Center. 17331 FM 1702 by the Baptist Church.
Butch was the fifth child of Gustine and Kate born February 11, 1938, in Edna Hill. He attended Edna Hill Elementary School and finished High School in Dublin. He gained his state farmer degree, played football, ran track, and played in the band.
While attending Tarleton, he married Lou Etta Taylor from Carlton and had 2 sons, Steve and Barry. They ran a dairy farm on the family farm. He then went into trucking with Central Freight. He spent the rest of his working years with T. E. Mercer trucking Fort Worth, Joe D. Hughes Houston, and Heldt Trucking in Alice, Texas. During which time he received his Transportation Degree from TCJC. He was President of all three companies.
Butch’s second wife was Betty Longino from Carlton, and had her 2 boys, Randy and Mark. His third wife was Linda Russell from Hurst, Texas and had one daughter, Kelli. His fourth wife, Liz Eberlyn from San Augustine, Texas and they had her 2 boys, Jon and Steven.
During his golden years he hung out with dear friends, Merrill, Dean, Bill, Karen, John W., David G. Butch was an avid golfer, rancher with cows and horses, he also loved hunting and playing with grandkids. He volunteered for years at The Ben Hogan Museum in Dublin. He was preceded in death by his parents and four siblings, Loree, Tad, Gene, Virginia, and Bobby Gilbreath.
He is survived by his sons, Steve and wife, Robin, Barry and wife, Elizabeth, daughter, Kelli and husband, Heath, 9 grandchildren, and 14 great-grandchildren. Memorials in lieu of flowers can be made to Barbee Cemetery at 17331 FM 1702 Dublin, Texas 76446.
