STEPHENVILLE — The Texans Student Lounge opened today at Tarleton State University following a ribbon-cutting ceremony, introducing a new campus space designed to support student connection, collaboration and community.

Located in the Barry B. Thompson Student Center, the Texans Student Lounge is designed to serve as a dynamic gathering space for students. University leaders, students and campus partners gathered to commemorate the opening, highlighting the lounge’s role as a hub for engagement and innovation.

“We are intentional about creating environments at Tarleton State that support student success beyond the classroom. The Texans Student Lounge stands as a reflection of that commitment, designed to enhance the overall student experience and foster a vibrant campus community,” said Tarleton State President Dr. James Hurley. “It reinforces our vision of a university where every space contributes purposely to student growth and institutional excellence.”

The 126-seat space includes a mix of seating options, with 86 seats in chairs and stools and 40 in sofa, lounge-style seating and a small, lighted stage. Students can utilize 4-top tables, a long bar-top with stools and comfortable sofas and booths, creating an environment that supports both individual study and group interaction.

“The Texans Student Lounge is more than just a new space, it’s a testament to our dedication at Tarleton State to fostering student engagement, community and success at every level,” said Dr. Diana Ortega, Vice President for Student Engagement and Success. “Whether you’re a leader in a student organization, a commuter seeking connection between classes, or simply looking for a place to collaborate and recharge, this lounge meets students where they are and offers opportunities to build relationships, share ideas, and thrive. At Tarleton State, we are committed to supporting every student’s journey, and the Texans Student Lounge embodies that promise by providing an environment for all to connect, innovate, and make lasting memories.”

Designed with flexibility in mind, the lounge features both fixed and mobile furniture, allowing it to transform into an event venue for workshops, guest speakers and student activities. During standard operating hours, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and 9 a.m. to 11 p.m. Sunday, the lounge remains open for general student use when not reserved.
