Roger Edwin McQueary, 87, passed away on April 21, 2026.
Roger was born on January 20, 1939, in Mineral Wells, TX, to Amos McQueary and Helen Brown McQueary. He was a proud graduate of Perrin High School’s Class of 1957, which included 14 students. After high school graduation, he attended Tarleton State Junior College, lettered two years in basketball and served as captain of the team in his last year. He married his high school sweetheart, Linda Hooten on June 4, 1960, in Perrin, TX.
The couple moved to Houston after getting married. Roger played basketball at Rice University, lettered two years and again served as captain of the team in his senior year. He also coached the Rice freshman basketball team. After graduating from Rice, the couple moved to Corpus Christi where Roger taught and coached at the ISD. The couple later moved to Stephenville after Roger accepted a coaching job at Tarleton State University. After coaching at Tarleton, Roger accepted a teaching/coaching assignment with Stephenville ISD. He enjoyed many years with the ISD, with his last assignment being principal at Chamberlin Elementary. He retired in 1995. Roger and Linda celebrated 65 years of marriage prior to her passing on January 11, 2026. He was a member of Westside Church of Christ.
Roger is survived by his children Mark (Kema) McQueary and Ralinda (Heath) Stone and grandchildren Kash Stone and Kutter Stone. Roger was preceded in death by his wife, parents and sister.
Visitation will be at Stephenville Funeral Home at 1:00 PM Friday, April 24, 2026. Funeral Service will be held at Stephenville Funeral Home at 2:00 PM Friday, April 24, 2026 with Buddy Payne officiating. Interment will follow after the service at West End Cemetery.
