It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Rita Joy Groves, who left this world on April 28, 2026, at the age of 80. Graveside services honoring Rita’s life will be held at Huckabay Cemetery on Sunday, May 3, 2026 at 2:00 PM. A time for visitation will be held at Stephenville Funeral Home on Saturday, May 2, 2026, from 2:00 – 5:00 PM, allowing friends and family to share their memories.
Rita was born on July 12, 1945, in Stephenville, TX to the late James ‘Coon’ Phillips and Omega Lowe Phillips. Rita married the love of her life, Robert ’Bob” Groves on June 26, 1964 in the Huckabay Church of Christ. She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and sister. She dedicated her life to her family, embracing her role as a homemaker. Rita worked for many years at Lingleville and Huckabay Schools. She had a unique ability to make everyone feel welcome and loved, and she will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and all whose lives she touched. Rita Joy Groves will forever be remembered in our hearts, as her love and warmth continue to inspire us. May she rest in peace.
Rita is survived by her devoted husband of 63 years, Robert ‘Bob’ Groves; her cherished sons, James Groves and wife Tish, Kevin Groves and wife Christi; and daughter Joy Groves and Donna Lachney. She was also a proud grandmother to her grandchildren: James Robert, Benjamin Chantz, Kacen Eric, Ian Kiani, and Jonathan Groves; and many great-grandchildren. In addition to her immediate family, Rita is survived by her loving sister, Glenda Wittich, and many nieces and nephews.
Rita was preceded in death by her parents, James and Omega Phillips.
Service Information
Visitation will be held from 2-5 p.m. on Saturday, May 2, at the Stephenville Funeral Home. Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, May 3, in the Huckabay Cemetery in Erath County.
