October 15, 1927 ~ May 2, 2026 (age 98)
Ruby Jo “Peggy” Thompson, age 98, passed away peacefully on May 2, 2026. She was born on October 15, 1927, in Stephenville, Texas, to Erskin Stephens and Leota Hanna.
Peggy spent most of her life devoted to her family and home as a homemaker. She was a woman of strong faith and a member of the Baptist church. Peggy found joy in the simple pleasures of life—bowling, line dancing, playing cards, watching the Texas Rangers, reading, and crocheting. Above all, she cherished time spent with her family, who were the center of her world.
On September 6, 1947, she married the love of her life, Richard C. “RC” Thompson, in Stephenville, Texas. Together they had three children. Peggy is lovingly remembered by her children: Janice Brown of Arlington, Texas; Nancy Shanahan of Fort Walton Beach, Florida; and Steve Thompson and wife Lisa of Paris, Texas.
She is also survived by her grandchildren: Kim Crickman and husband Kevin of Weatherford, Texas; Sky Shanahan and wife Taylor of Midlothian, Texas; Ann Hayes and husband Mike of Beach City, Texas; and Paul Brown of Arlington, Texas.
Her legacy continues through her great-grandchildren—Whitley, Avery, Forest, Corbin, Landry, Nolan, and Layla—and great-great-grandchildren Jayden and Ellie Mae.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and seven brothers and sisters.
A graveside service will be held at 12:00 noon on Thursday, May 7, 2026, at West End Cemetery in Stephenville, Texas, with Whitley Wenger officiating. Visitation will be held prior to the service from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at Lacy Funeral Home in Stephenville, Texas.
Peggy will be remembered for her warmth, her strength, and the deep love she had for her family. Her presence will be greatly missed, but her memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
