(February 5, 1931 – May 7, 2026)
Mrs. Doris Thelma Harpool, 95 years old, passed away May 7, 2026, at her home.
The youngest of twelve children, Doris was born February 5, 1931, in Edna Hill, Texas to James Madison Hammons and Letha Pearl (Brown) Hammons. She attended grade school at Edna Hill and graduated from Dublin High School in 1948.
Shortly before graduating high school, she was introduced to Harvey Harpool, a classmate’s brother who was visiting from his Navy Base in Los Angeles, California. Harvey and Doris’ love blossomed through letters and a handful of dates. They married on August 18, 1949, in Stephenville. After Harvey’s enlistment ended in 1950, the couple moved to Midland, Texas where they had three children; Rhonda, Linda, and Harlan.
The family moved back to Dublin in 1979 and took over running the Harpool family farm out by Carlton. Doris was blessed to be a stay-at-home mother and was a lovingly present grandmother. She was also an active Girl and Cub Scout leader, a Sunday school teacher, and member of the Carlton Extension Homemakers Club. She enjoyed gardening, cooking, oil painting, crafts, and researching genealogy.
Doris was preceded in death by all of eleven her siblings, her husband, and daughter Rhonda. Surviving are her daughter Linda Skaggs and her husband Carl, and son Harlan Harpool, both residing in Dublin; five grandchildren: Gary Grady and his wife Heather of Shreveport, Louisiana, Silver Barns of Stephenville, Crystal Nault and her husband Sam of Dublin, Hollie Sonustun and her husband Bruce of Albuquerque, New Mexico, and Katie Harpool of Flower Mound, Texas; and six great-grandchildren: Kaylee Mason, Bethany Barns, Miles Nault, Harlan Sonustun, Kevin Sonustun, and Francis Davies.
