Rose Ann Wood, also known as Ann, Ms. Ann, Sister Ann, Rose, Mom, Grandma, Memaw, Great Gran, and Aunt Rose Ann, passed from this life on Monday, July 27, 2026.
She was 91 years old. Her family will host a visitation on Friday, July 31st from 5 to 7 PM at Lacy Funeral Home in Stephenville, Texas. Funeral Services will be held at 2 PM at the Lacy Funeral Home Chapel with interment to follow at West End Cemetery in Stephenville.
Rose Ann was born on Tuesday, February 5, 1935 to Henry and Mary Bell Lovett in Locke, Arkansas, where she spent her childhood playing with her siblings in the woods around her home. She met her soul mate, Benny Wood, while he was stationed at Fort Smith. They married in 1952 and made their home in Stephenville, Texas after his discharge from the Army. After their three children were grown, she worked in the shoe department at Walmart where she made many friends. When she wasn’t working, she loved reading, sewing, crafting, and crocheting. She was a devoted member of the Stephenville Primitive Baptist Church and dearly loved attending services and socializing with other members. She was an amazing cook and renowned for her desserts. Every approaching holiday, she saw her grandchildren scrambling to be first in line to request their favorite dessert. Every Christmas her children would play pranks on each other, each trying to steal the other’s bag of homemade peanut brittle. Rose loved spending time with her family.
Rose leaves behind a daughter, Lanell Gonzales Criswell and husband Dawell of Granbury, son Danny Wood and wife Cristy of Stephenville, and sister Nelda Nelson of Fort Smith, AR. She is also survived by 5 grandchildren, Elizabeth Reeves and husband James of Conroe, Brian Wood and wife Kenna of Utah, Kelly Wood of Granbury, Cody Wood and wife Raemy of Fort Worth, Keshia Stroud and husband Jose of White Face, and grandson-in-law Fed Kurzeja of Ohio. Great grandchildren, Trunks, Roslyn, and Harper Reeves all of Conroe, Cole Wood and Brooke Fields of Utah, Brayden Barnett, Brantley Barnett and Kopelyn Stroud of White Face; and Colter Wood of Fort Worth. She is also survived by one great great grandchild Lily Reeves of Conroe; several nieces and nephews, and many friends. She will be missed by her “adopted” Alabama family whom she dearly loved as well, including stepsons, Tony, Terry, Mark and Matt Jordan, and their families.
She was preceded in death by her first husband Benny (2007), second husband Jack Jordan(2021), son David Wood (2022) and granddaughter mandy Kurzeja (2023). While we are heartbroken, we are comforted by the knowledge that she is in her heavenly home and that the angels are lining up for a serving of her famous apple crisp.
