The annual Tarleton State University Family Weekend returns Sept. 18-19 with a packed schedule of activities and events for everyone.
“This semester has been electrifying, and we’re just getting started,” said Lathes Towns, Executive Director of Campus Life and Family Engagement. “Family Weekend is an event you do not want to miss, packed with excitement, energy, connections, engagement and a whole lot of Texan Spirit. This is where being a Texan becomes a family event.”
Festivities begin Friday with the Ring Ceremony and family photo at the campus ring statue, celebrating students who have completed 60 or more credit hours and reserved their class rings. Multiple ceremony times and photo opportunities are scheduled throughout the day.
Family check-in starts at noon on Friday and continues throughout the weekend, opening up a world of social events and traditions new and old. Families can relax at the massage trailer and Ballet Folklorico performance or even enjoy friendly competition at Texan Smart Family Feud and Casino Night.
Three screenings of the 1996 classic “Space Jam” are scheduled at the Tarleton State Planetarium, promising an immersive viewing experience with full-dome projection and surround sound. Science Showings will also be held at the planetarium over the weekend, inviting attendees to learn and discover alongside faculty and students.
The fun and conversation continue Saturday morning, beginning with Breakfast with the Hurleys at 9 a.m. and followed by President Hurley Updates and Tarleton Parents Association meeting. Saturday also features a Family Lunch at all on-campus dining locations and a Military Connected Social for veterans and military families.
Family Weekend fittingly concludes with a Texan football game day and its time-honored traditions, including the Pointe Du Hoc rally and Texan Alley tailgate. Kickoff is scheduled for 6 p.m. against Merrimack.
