CARROLLTON, Ga. – It was all treats and no tricks on Halloween for Tarleton State Volleyball, who completed the comeback and the reverse sweep to defeat West Georgia 3-2 (19-25, 17-25, 25-17, 25-18, 15-7) on Saturday at The Coliseum.
Tarleton State (10-15, 6-6) collected a Division I era single match record 109 digs en route to the win over West Georgia (4-20, 0-12). The Texans picked up their first reverse sweep of the season and first since Nov. 15, 2025 (3-2 vs. Southern Utah).
Fifth year outside hitter/opposite Madison Rice-Locket posted her sixth double-double of the season with a career-high 21 digs and 12 kills. Fifth year outside hitter LaNeah Lara also co-led the Texans in kills with 12, obtaining her 1,000th career kill in the process. Lara’s historic kill came in the first set in the 33rd point.
Libero Leddy Rae Guinn matched a Division I-high 33 digs to go with nine assists, also obtaining her 1,000th career dig. Guinn posted her fifth straight match with 20+ digs, being the first Texan in the Division I era to accomplish that feat. She is also the first Texan in the last decade to have a streak of five straight matches with at least 20 digs.
Setters Peyton Fadal (21 assists, 14 digs) and Kingsley Minus (22 assists, 10 digs) each posted double-doubles on Saturday. They are the first pair of setters since 2024 to post a double-double in the same match.
After the Texans dropped the first two sets, Tarleton State quickly decided the match was far from over. Opening the third frame on a 4-0 scoring run, the Texans scored seven of the first eight points to take command. Even a 4-0 scoring run later by West Georgia didn’t faze the Texans, who countered with four unanswered points to maintain the advantage.
A kill from junior middle blocker Alyssa Dinh capped off a 5-0 scoring run later in the third set to put the Texans up by nine. Scoring four of five points to make it a set point, Lara’s kill off Fadal’s assist gave the Texans a 25-17 set three win to keep the match alive.
West Georgia looked to put away Tarleton State early in the fourth set, going on a 5-0 scoring run. The Texans, however, had other ideas. Tarleton State delivered six unanswered points and took a five-point lead after a kill from junior opposite Taylynn Biggs. Kills from Lara and Rice-Locket pushed the Texans out in front 20-14.
Even three straight points from the Wolves didn’t slow down Tarleton State, who countered with a 4-0 scoring run. Rice-Locket clinched the fourth set with a kill and helped the Texans force a fifth set with a 25-18 set four win.
A kill from freshman middle blocker Onita Davis and a service ace from Rice-Locket helped the Texans get the fifth set off on the right foot. Both Davis and Rice-Locket followed suit later in the set, with Davis obtaining a service ace and Rice-Locket getting back-to-back kills. The Texans finished the final set on a 4-0 scoring run and obtained six of the final seven points to complete the reverse sweep.
Tarleton State plays its final regular season road match on Thursday against in-conference rival Abilene Christian before returning to Wisdom Gym on Saturday, Nov. 7 at 1 p.m. against Little Rock. Attendees who stay for the whole volleyball match will receive exclusive access to a VIP tailgate for the Tarleton State Football game later that day. Tickets start at just $10.
