STEPHENVILLE – Tarleton State senior defender Kaitlyn Flanagan was named the WAC Defensive Player of the Week as announced by the conference office on Tuesday afternoon.

The award marks Flanagan’s first weekly honor and the first defensive award for the Texans in the 2025 season. She is now the third Texan to receive a weekly honor in four weeks, following Stevie Reynolds and Jaycie Bass earlier this season.

Flanagan earns the award after scoring against McNeese on Sunday, helping to bring the Purple and White to a 4-0 win and secure her fifth shutout of the season.

Off a corner kick by Bass, Flanagan headed the ball past the Cowgirls’ goalkeeper to score the third goal of the match. The California native made her single shot count and anchored the defensive attack that pitched a pair of shutouts this week. The Texan defense was the only WAC team to post two shutouts this week.

Flanagan is one of only three athletes to have appeared in every game in Tarleton State program history, recording 5,243 minutes in her career. The senior has started all eight games and has played four full matches in 2025, scoring two goals and one assist. She is the only Texan defender to have put goals on the board so far this season, scoring twice off three shots on goal.

Tarleton State is now 3-0 on its five-game homestand. The Texans will continue their stretch on Stephenville on Thursday at 7 p.m. at the Tarleton State Soccer Complex against Alcorn State, which will serve as “9/11 Remembrance” to help honor the victims of the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attack.
