STEPHENVILLE — For the second time this outdoor season, the Tarleton State Men’s Track and Field program has swept the WAC Athlete of the Week Awards, the conference office announced on Wednesday afternoon.

David Mvundura was tabbed the WAC Men’s Track Athlete of the Week, while Jacob Thomas was named the WAC Men’s Field Athlete of the Week. Mvundura and Thomas each earn their first selection for the outdoor season this year, as Thomas adds to his honors after earning Field Athlete of the Week in the indoor slate. So far this season, the Texan men have had five different athletes earn the honor across the first four weeks of the season.

Mvundura posted a pair of top three finishes this past week at the Baylor Invitational. The senior took home his first individual title of the spring in the 200 meters clocking in at 20.68 seconds to win his heat and the event. He ran the fourth fastest time in program history and now ranks 17th in the NCAA West Region. In the 100, he clocked in at 10.45 seconds to finish third.

Thomas has been in the spotlight in each of the indoor and outdoor seasons. He is the men’s pole vault school record holder in both indoors and outdoors and broke his school record for the second time this season last Friday at the Baylor Invitational. Thomas was perfect on each of his first four attempts, the only competitor in the field to not a miss a bar and reach over five meters. His best clearance of 5.21 meters broke his old school record of 5.06 meters that he set in the season opener at ACU.

The senior now ranks 24th in the NCAA West Region with his best mark of the 5.21 meters. He is in prime position to finish the end of the season in the top 48 in the region to earn a spot at the NCAA West First Rounds in Fayetteville, Ark.

Tarleton State will host its only home meet of the season this Friday and Saturday. The Texans will welcome a variety of schools and athletes across the two days with a senior day presentation at the end of the meet on Saturday.
