Drewford Barnett, 78, of Whitney, Texas, passed away after a life devoted to family, education, and music. He was born September 28, 1947, in Stephenville and attended Hico ISD, where he achieved 12 years of perfect attendance. He later graduated from the University of Texas at Arlington with a degree in mathematics.

Drewford married Karen Tinsley on June 7, 1966, and they shared 58 years of marriage before her passing in 2024. He taught mathematics for 21 years, the majority of that time at Whitney Jr. High School, where he was known for his dedication to his students. He and Karen were local business owners of Barnett’s Flowers and RE/MAX Realty in Whitney.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Karen Barnett, parents Bertice Barnett, Jr. and Mary Barnett and brothers James and Dale Barnett.

He is survived by his children, Michelle Mobley and husband Robert of Belton, and Enoch Barnett of Mansfield; and by his grandchildren Madison Mobley, Micayla Russell and husband Jackson, Ethan Barnett, Hunter Barnett, Victoria Barnett and one great-grandchild Elsie Russell.

A talented guitar player, Drewford enjoyed playing music with friends and family, finding joy in the songs he loved.

He will be remembered for his ability to laugh at himself and others, his love of the mountains, and the strong bond he held dear for his family.

A memorial service will be held at Hillsboro church of Christ on June 19, 2026 at 11 AM. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Cherokee Children’s Home.
