STEPHENVILLE (February 9, 2015) — The shakeups continue on the Tarleton State football coaching staff.
The resignation of defensive coordinator Henry Cofer was announced Monday by the Tarleton Athletic Commnications Department, one of three coaches leaving the staff.
Offensive coordinator Justin Carrigan resigned weeks ago to become the first head coach at Texas-Permian Basin in Odessa, and he has hired Tarleton defensive assists Chris Mineo and Jacob Martin co-defensive coordinators at UTPB, located in Mineo’s hometown of Odessa.
Fowler told the The Flash Today Monday afternoon that assistant head coach Mason Miller is taking over as offensive coordinator and will continue coaching the offensive line. Receivers coach Jonathan Beasely has assumed the title of recruiting coordinator.
Fowler says he expects to fill the remaining full-time positions on his staff soon. He is hiring a quarterbacks coach/passing game coordinator and a defensive line coach.
Former Tarleton standouts Marc Martinez and All-American Charles Moore are staying on as graduate assistants with outside linebackers and safeties, respectively. Moore was rewarded the 2014 William V. Campbell Trophy as the National Football Foundation Scholar-Athlete of the Year.
It’s no surprise that Fowler is assuming defensive coordinator duties. He came to Tarleton as defensive coordinator in 2008 before being promoted to head coach in 2010. He has continued to coach defensive backs, but says that could now change.
“We’ll hire either an outside linebackers coach or a cornerbacks coach and I will coach the other position,” said Fowler. “I’ve always coached a position over there, so that part of it won’t be any kind of major transition for us.”
