(May 13, 2015) — Dublin has a new boys head basketball coach, and he comes in with a state tournament pedigree.
Will Parker, currently a boys assistant at Haltom City High School north of Fort Worth, is taking over for Richard Pringle, who has accepted the boys head coaching job at nearby Comanche.
“I’m excited about Will Parker, he has great experience and is a great guy,” said Dublin athletic director Bob Cervetto. “I’m confident he’ll be a good leader for our kids.”
Parker has 12 years experience, all in the Fort Worth area, and has been on the bench in the state tournament multiple times. After beginning at Fort Worth Dunbar as a certified athletic trainer, Parker ended up serving as an assistant coach.
Parker helped Dunbar to the 4A state title in 2005, defeating Angleton 56-50 in the championship game.
Parker left to be an athletic trainer at Fort Worth Southwest, but was so respected at Dunbar and across Fort Worth ISD that he was asked back to the Dunbar bench to assist during state tournament runs in 2007 and 2008. He became a full-time boys assistant coach at Southwest from 2008-2012, and journeyed as far as the state quarterfinals.
Parker has been at Haltom City the last three years.
“He’s a great man and has a wonderful family that he’s bringing to Dublin with him,” said Cervetto. “I couldn’t be happier with the way this process played out. We had about 30 applicants, and there were a lot of good coaches and people in that pool. It was a tough decision, but I feel like we found us a good one.”
Parker graduated from Southwest High School before earning a bachelor’s of science from Texas Wesleyan University in Fort Worth in 2003. He will teach history at DHS, while his wife, Leah, will be an English teacher in the district. They have two sons, Jayce and Cannon.
Pringle leaves Dublin for Comanche after also serving as head coach at area schools Santo and Hico. His 2012 Lion team, led by current Tarleton junior and Lone Star Conference Academic Player of the Year Jakob Damstra, reached the Region I-2A tournament for the first time since 1995.
“We appreciate Coach Pringle’s years of service to our kids, our school and our community,” said Cervetto. “We wish him the best at Comanche.”
