STEPHENVILLE (April 5, 2016) — Stephenville (22-3) bullied its way back into the regional tournament for the third time in the history of its girls soccer program and second straight year by hammering rival Brownwood (12-10-1), 3-0, in a Region I-4A quarterfinal at Lem Brock Field Tuesday evening.
Senior striker Bayleigh Chaviers led the onslaught with two first half goals and a second half assist, contributing to each score as the Bees march on to face reigning state champ and top-ranked Kennedale on their home turf at 1:30 p.m. Friday.
Stephenville head coach Casey Weil discusses the game, getting back to regionals, the performance of Chaviers and more here:
The Honeybees dominated from the onset with Chaviers cashing in on their fifth shot in the 15th minute. By that time the Brownwood keeper already had two saves and Skylar Chipman had hit the post.
The biggest play of the match came just before the 10 minute mark of the opening half when keeper Jordyn Howle slid into a kick save then covered the ball. Her delivery down the field then set up a blitzkrieg attack that ended with Chaviers on a breakaway. She pounded home her second goal, and the only question the overflow home crowd was left asking was what the final score would be.
Chaviers found the head of Erin Couch, who knocked in the final goal with just more than six minutes remaining, but it could have been much worse. It was the fourth goal in three playoff matches for Couch, who had a hat trick in the 7-0 bi-district rout of Bridgeport. Stephenville also defeated Pampa, 1-0, in area.

While Brownwood had only two shots and one true scoring opportunity, Stephenville fired away throughout the evening. Codi Beyer missed high, hit a cross bar and hit a post, and Chipman put several shots off the cross bar and post herself.
It was the third Stephenville victory over Brownwood this season, as the Bees swept the Lady Lons en rout to a district title, taking the first seed from district into the playoffs for the first time in program history.
