The Mutton Bustin’ Competition presented by McCoy’s will be held Saturday, September 17, at the Stephenville City Park from 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm during the Bruner Motors RAM Trucks Rodeo Heritage Week Kickoff Celebration!

Entries are open to riders ages 3-8 years old (must be under 55 pounds). For a small $10 entry fee, young cowboys and cowgirls can try their hand at riding a wild and woolly sheep. No ropes will be allowed. Contestants must ride facing forward. Helmets and vests are required and will be provided.

The Top 15 from Saturday’s competition will be invited to compete during the PRCA Rodeo (5 in each performance). Contestants may enter twice in the preliminaries held at the park, but may only qualify once to the finals held during the rodeo. The following prizes will be awarded to the winners of each performance: 1st place – Bob Berg buckles sponsored by Dean & Gloria Taylor / Kwik Kar Oil & Lube, 2nd place – straw hats donated by Capital Hatters, 3rd – 5th place – pizza gift certificates donated by CiCi’s Pizza.

Sign up will begin at 4:00 pm in the City Park. If kiddos want to ride on the Mutton Bustin’ float in the parade, they need to be lined up by 4:30 pm. The float will be towards the front of the parade, which will start at 5:00 pm from the park, wind around downtown and return to the park. Competition will begin at 6:00 pm (or as soon as the parade is finished).

The only mutton busters that will compete during the official PRCA Rodeo performances, September 23 – 25, will be the Top 15 winners from the competition held at the City Park on Saturday, September 17th.
