(March 6, 2017) — Martha Riojas lifted a personal record total of 885 pounds to finish second in her weight class at a girls regional powerlifting meet, exceeding the automatic qualifying total to represent Dublin at the state meet.

Riojas succeeded on every attempt in all three types of lifts Saturday, going 340, 360 and ultimately 370 on squat, then opening at 155, pushing to 175 and eventually earning white lights at 185 in the bench press for a sub-total of 555. Her final dead lift of 330 pounds gave her a total that exceeded both her prior personal record and state auto-qualifying mark of 875.

The state meet for Riojas begins at 8 a.m. Saturday, March 18, at Waco’s Extraco Events Center.
