To our clients, families, supporters, and volunteers:
You might have heard a lot of talk in the national media lately about Meals on Wheels programs and the support they receive through federal grants. The term “meals on wheels” can be used to describe lots of programs and services but one is not necessarily connected to the other. Some of the information out there is helpful and accurate but some of it can be confusing, so I wanted to take a moment to address our clients and supporters directly.
Meals on Wheels of Erath County (MOWEC) operates as an independent 501c3 governed by a volunteer Board of Directors. We receive financial support and funding from state and federal programs, including Health and Human Services (HHS); North Central Texas Area Agency on Aging (NCTAAA); Texas Department of Agriculture (TDOA); Erath County; Erath County United Way (ECUW); direct donations from local organizations and individuals; as well as fundraising efforts such as Handsome Hunks of Erath County, organized by Lisa Pendleton; and Shoot Down Senior Hunger.
MOWEC was established in 1995, and since that time, our board has worked diligently to secure diversified funding sources, establish a modest and conservative budget, and build up an emergency operational fund. Because of their dedication and frugality over the years, along with the amazing support of our community, MOWEC has been able to serve clients continually for the last 22 years and we fully expect to continue services well into the future.
The fact of the matter is, President Trump’s proposed budget is the first step in a very long process of budget negotiations. Business will continue at MOWEC through the support of our community and with the help of our dedicated volunteers – which is just what we’ve done for the last 22 years.
Our commitment to clients, families, and all of our supporters in the community remains our top priority. If you ever have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to call me directly.
