(February 19, 2015) — The Stephenville softball team continued its strong start to the season with a 1-0 win against tournament host Eastland Thursday morning.
The Honeybees (2-0) continue tournament play Friday, taking on Albany at noon and Holliday at 1:30 p.m.
The game was tied until the end, when a walk-off single Rainey Boase plated Sierra Varnado to lift the Honeybees and head coach Rus Mayes past the team he coached before moving to Stephenville.
The real story was the pitching of freshman ace Julia Flores, who struck out 11 of the 14 batters she faced while allowing just one hit and issuing one walk.
That’s back-to-back wins, both in dominating performances, for Flroes. She allow just a run on four hits while striking out seven in a complete-game effort when the Bees defeated Alvarado 7-1 in their season opener Tuesday. She also had a three-run single in that win, and Nadine Arredondo belted a three-run homer.
The tournament in Eastland will continue into Saturday.
