(February 26, 2015) — Lingleville grabbed a 10-point halftime lead, then big man Jarod Hagood helped the Cardinals to fly away from Bryson in the second half Wednesday night.

Hagood scored 16, including 12 in the fourth quarter, as Lingleville thumped Bryson 53-31 in a Region III-A boys bi-district playoff at Millsap High School.

“We played good defense again. I’m confident if we hold teams to less than 50 points we are probably going to win almost every time. We’re playing good defense, we just have to hit shots when we need them.”

They didn’t need a lot of big shots to get past Bryson, but they got them any way from Hagood and Tim Griffin. With 12 points, Griffin joined his teammate in double figures. Other Lingleville scorers included Tom VanKranenburg with seven, Brady Sult five, Devon Corpus five, Bailey Fenn four and Colbe Stoker four.

Zephyr, the champ from 19-A, is up next in the area round. Tip off is 7 p.m. Friday at De Leon High School.

“We will have to play well to get past them,” said Eckert. “They won their district, and their well coached. They mix up their defenses between man and zone, so we’ll see what we get.”
