STEPHENVILLE (March 19, 2015) — Stephenville placed second between event champion Abilene Wylie and Brownwood Thursday in the Optimist Club Invitational at Legends Country Club.
The top four Honeybee team scores totaled 423 strokes on a rain-soaked course with casual water hazards and overly slow greens. The event even had to be delayed half an hour due to heavy morning fog.
Once the weather cleared, Wylie finished in 412 strokes with Brownwood in 425. Rounding out the tournament field were Mineral Wells (460), Throckmorton (491), Huckabay (550) and Lipan (574).
Leading the Honeybees was fourth place individual Morgan Kinsey with a round of 95. She tied for fourth with Audrey McKillip of Brownwood, but won the scorecard playoff.
Other scoring rounds for Stephenville were posted by Sydney Brown (102), Breanna Wooley (106) and Robbi Elliott (120) with Maycee Decker (125) also on the team. Competing individually for the Bees were Chelsea Gillespie (107) and Taylor Harpole (109).
The Yellow Jackets did not have a full team on the boys side after teams placed first and second in the Glen Rose-Iredell Invitational earlier in the week, but three individuals did compete. Leading the way for Stephenville was Blake Fowler (124), followed by Cade Lemons (130) and Caleb Moore.
