The Stephenville Police Department moved quickly after receiving a call from a Facebook reader that she recognized an alleged rape suspect whose picture was shared on the highly popular page Erath County Breaking News.
William Wesley McKamie, 29, was taken into custody without incident following the tip which led police to his front door. McKamie has been taken to the Erath County Jail where his bond has been set at $750,000 on the charge of aggravated sexual assault.
McKamie’s arrest stems from an investigation of an alleged physical and sexual assault of a woman who was reported to have met McKamie at a local bar before being attacked early Tuesday morning.
This is the second time ECBN has played a role in helping police nab a suspect. Last year, the Facebook group helped investigators track down a woman in the kidnapping of a small child in Stephenville.
