GOODYEAR, Ariz. – The TexAnn golf team won the Western New Mexico Mustang Invitational at the Palm Valley Country Club this weekend with an overall score of 581 (+5) in the two rounds.

This was the first tournament win of the season for the TexAnns, who shot 16 strokes better than the second-place finisher in the 19-team tournament.

After shooting a 295 in the first round—the only team to shoot in the 200s—Tarleton followed up by shooting a tournament-best 286 in the second round to secure the title.

Four of the five TexAnn golfers finished in the top four overall out of 95 players.

Beatriz Prados finished first overall to capture the individual title by shooting even par in the two rounds. Prados shot a 73 in the first round and a 71 in the second as the only player to shoot par. Prados had four birdies to top the leaderboard on the final day.



Sarah Gee placed second with a 1-over par (145) in the two rounds. Gee matched Prados with a 71 in the second round, including three birdies and 13 pars on the final day.

Isabel Jimenez-Perea and Casey Wild tied for third for the Texans with a 2-over par (146) on the weekend. Jimenez-Perea shot a 73 in both rounds while Wild shot a 71 in her final round. Both Jimenez-Perea and Wild had 15 pars in round two to lead all golfers.

Kerbey Kipp improved on her opening-round score of 81 to shoot a 75 in day two and finish 12-over par for Tarleton.

The TexAnns led all teams on the final day with 12 birdies and 66 pars.

Tarleton will host their own tournament on April 12-14 for the Doc Housewright invitational at the Harbor Lakes Golf Club in Granbury.
