Graham uses four-run fifth to trip up Bees

(April 7, 2015) — Graham bundled all its timely hits together, while Stephenville couldn’t buy one Tuesday evening.

Graham scored four runs in the fifth inning and defeated Stephenville 6-3 in a District 6-4A softball duel at Tarleton Softball Complex.

The Honeybees tied the game at 1-1 on an RBI single by Nadine Arredondo that plated Morgan Diciccio in the bottom of the third, but Graham blew it open with a home run and an RBI triple fueling its big fifth.

Arredondo also drove in runs in the fifth and seventh, and it was Julia Flores who scored each time.

In the fifth, Flores reached third on a single, a hit by pitch and a wild pitch, then scored when Arredondo grounded out to third.

In the seventh, Flores drew walk, moved to second on a ground out and scored on a single by Arredondo, who finished 2-for-4 from the dish. Flores was 2-for-2 with a walk.

Stephenville batters were struck out 12 times, though they Honeybees did collect seven hits and four walks and certainly had their chances. They stranded runners at second and third in each of the first three innings.

The Bees entertain Brownwood in 6-4A play Friday. Junior varsity action starts at 5:30 p.m., followed by varsity teams at 7:30 p.m.
