STEPHENVILLE (September 24, 2015) — Lisa Thornton from Plum, Texas has the early lead in barrel racing at the Cowboy Capital of the World PRCA Rodeo.
The Brazos Valley Equine Barrel Racing began with slack Thursday evening at Lone Star Arena, where the first public performance of the rodeo will take place at 7 p.m. Friday. Other performances are Saturday at 7 p.m. and Sunday at 2 p.m.
Thornton stopped the clock at 15.49 seconds, just a tick faster than the 15.50 posted by World Champion Mary Walker and Janet Staton.
The winners receive trophy buckles donated by Animal Health International, trophy spurs courtesy of Tammy Culpepper and The Pampered Chef and a custom rifle by Key’d Up Rodeo. Tractors used to drag the arena were provided by Hendershot Equipment and Tanglewood Pharmacy and Medical Supply.
Friday will be the busiest day of rodeo activities, with slack for team roping, tie-down roping and steer wrestling beginning at 8 a.m.
