STEPHENVILLE (September 29, 2015) – For the second time in three weeks, Hailey Roberts and Chandler Gow were named the Lone Star Conference Offensive Player and Setter of the Week.

The TexAnn tandem lifted Tarleton to four straight wins last week, including three key conference victories over Texas Woman’s, West Texas A&M, and Eastern New Mexico. The win over West Texas A&M Friday in Wisdom Gym marked the first time in school history the TexAnns had defeated the Lady Buffs in back-to-back matches, dating back to last season’s LSC Championship Tournament semifinals.

The national leader in kills and kills per set continued her torrid offensive pace with 92 more kill shots in four matches last week as Roberts posted a .320 hitting percentage in 14 sets.

In Tuesday’s match against Texas Woman’s in Denton, Roberts ripped apart the Tarleton record books by landing a career-high 37 kills with a .306 hitting percentage to break a nearly 16-year-old school from November 6, 1999.  The 37 kills are the most in a NCAA Division II match this season.  It was also the fourth 30-kill game of the season, which is enough to make her the school’s all-time leader in games with over 30 kills. To top off her record-setting effort, Roberts added 20 digs against TWU for the first 30-20 games of her career.

For the week, Roberts recorded 12 service aces, 53 digs, 10 blocks, and two assists including .400 hitting percentages in the wins over St. Mary’s and ENMU.  She improved her total of 20-kill games to eight this season with 24 against STMU. Roberts totaled 109.5 points, averaging 6.57 kills and 7.82 points per set for the week.

Meanwhile, the TexAnns as a team hit .274 with 228 kills with Gow leading the way. The sophomore setter from Mansfield had at least 38 assists in all four matches, including a career-high 66 against Texas Woman’s.

In Tuesday’s four-set win over Texas Woman’s, Gow had a hand in 93-percent of Tarleton’s earned points – which includes 66 assists, two kills, and an ace. Her 66 assists against Texas Woman’s are tied for the second-most in a match in school history and the first time a TexAnn setter has gone for over 60 assists since 2013.

This week moved Gow to No. 5 in the nation for the season in assists per set (11.94) and third in total assists (571). For the week, Gow totaled 190 assists for an average of 13.5 assists per set as well as 10 kills, two aces, 22 digs, seven total blocks, and 15.5 points.

For Roberts, it is her third Offensive Player of the Week honors this season and the sixth of her career. She has won the award three of the first four weeks this season. Gow now has two Setter of the Week awards to her credit, both this season.

Roberts, Gow, and the rest of the TexAnns will return to action this weekend with a Friday match in Austin against St. Edward’s and a Saturday match in Kingsville against the Javelinas.
