STEPHENVILLE (October 27, 2015) – Kenya Alexander‘s dominant week at the net was enough for the senior from Fort Hood to claim her first weekly defensive honor of the season from the Lone Star Conference.
Alexander totaled 21 blocks in 13 sets, including a season-high 10 against Angelo State to push the TexAnns into sole possession of first place in the Lone Star Conference standings. Alexander had her first double-double of the season Wednesday night against the Rambelles with 12 kills on a .429 hitting percentage and 10 blocks. In addition to her 21 total blocks, she added 32 kills for the week.
For the defending LSC Defensive Player of the Year, this is her first weekly award this season and the fourth of her two-year career at Tarleton.
She is also the third different TexAnn to win the defensive award this season, joining Meg Umbel and Ayssa Garcia, and the fifth different TexAnn to receive any kind of weekly recognition, also joining Hailey Roberts (offensive) and Chandler Gow (setter).
Alexander and the TexAnns will go for win No. 20 on the season this weekend when Tarleton returns to LSC action Friday night against Eastern New Mexico in Portales.
