STEPHENVILLE (November 6, 2015) — Texas Health Harris Methodist Hospital Stephenville has reached a major milestone in the development of its Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner (SANE) program. During a presentation at the hospital, Tarleton State University invested $25,000 to help secure photography equipment that is key to the program’s success.
“We are deeply committed to meeting the health care needs of the people in this community,” said Cindy McCarthy, chief nursing officer at Texas Health Stephenville. “The SANE program enhances our ability to continue our mission and help maintain the safety and well-being of our patients. Tarleton’s investment is a reassurance that we are taking steps in the right direction.”
Under the SANE program, specially trained nurses aid in administering a comprehensive sexual-assault medical-forensic examination, provide appropriate referrals for counseling, follow-up care and testify in court if called to do so.
“We are proud to collaborate with Texas Health Stephenville to help advance the development of the SANE program,” said Dr. F. Dominic Dottavio, president of Tarleton State University. “The hospital continues to display unwavering passion for the health and well-being of those they serve. We believe this new program will benefit our students, staff and faculty.”
