DUBLIN (November 14, 2015) — A local family is in mourning after a single vehicle accident took the life of a child near the city park in Dublin on Friday.
According to Dublin Police Chief Michael Jennings, the driver of the vehicle, who was also the child’s mother, told officers she noticed the 1-year-old child was moving around unsecured in the vehicle and when she turned to secure the child, the vehicle left the roadway.
Jennings said the vehicle left the roadway, striking a culvert and then a telephone pole before coming to rest well off the roadway on Highland Avenue in Dublin near the intersection with W. Blackjack/State Highway 6. He said upon arrival, Dublin EMS and Erath County EMS worked together to get both child and mother to Texas Health Harris Methodist Hospital in Stephenville. Unfortunately, Jennings reported the one-year-old boy was pronounced dead at the hospital.
However, Jennings said Dublin Fire and Police worked with EMS personnel on scene to get everyone out of the vehicle and to medical care. Traffic was slowed as emergency crews worked to clear the scene.
The name of the child and the driver are not being released by law enforcement or by The Flash at this time as the family is still dealing with this loss and Dublin PD is still investigating the accident.
