STEPHENVILLE (November 16, 2015) — As part of International Week celebrations on the campus of Tarleton State University, the Department of Fine Arts hosts a musical recital featuring the sounds of South India.
Thanmayee Krishnamurthy will perform with two international artists, Vittal Ramamurthy, on violin, and Poovalure Sriji, on the mridangam (South-Indian drums), at 4 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 19. The free recital takes place in the Clyde H. Wells Fine Arts Center Theater and is open to the public.
Thanmayee is one of the most sought-after young artists in the Carnatic classical music scene. She is best known for her emotive and expressive style of singing. Although primarily a vocalist in the Carnatic tradition, she also has a penchant for the Bhavageete style of music, which is a form of expressionist poetry. Thanmayee performs regularly at concerts and musical extravaganzas in India and the United States.
International Week at Tarleton is an annual celebration that enhances global perspective and intercultural climate on campus. This year, it takes place Nov. 16-21.
