(December 28, 2015) — Stephenville would like to have back one quarter from each of its Monday games to begin play in the Spring Creek Barbecue Invitational hosted by Mansfield ISD.
After the fourth quarter made the biggest difference in a 66-41 loss to talent-laden Springdale (Ark.) Har-Ber (full report here) in an early morning game, the Honeybees returned to the court and gave 6A Arlington Lamar everything it could handle in a 61-55 loss with the difference coming in a disastrous second quarter.
Stephenville will play at 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. Tuesday. The Honeybees meet 6A Wylie at Summit High School in the morning, and results will determine who they face in the afternoon.
Stephenville led 16-14 after the first quarter, but Lamar ran wild for a 23-10 advantage in the second and a 37-26 lead at intermission. That proved to be too much to overcome, though Stephenville also never went away.
Bayleigh Chaviers, a senior point guard, poured in 14 points to lead three double-digit scorers. Emily Brandon scored 11 in the paint. Chaviers and Brandon each had nine to lead Stephenville in its earlier loss, giving Chaviers 23 points and Brandon 20 on the day.
Kali Smith scored 10 for Stephenville, which also picked up five points from Jordan Carter and Ali Thorpe, and four each from Skyler Chipman and Peyton Wall. Liz Pack contributed two.
