Stephenville – Services for Barbara Joyce Swearingen, 78, retired registrar for Tarleton State University, who died Saturday, January 9, 2016, will be held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, January 13, 2016, at the Lacy Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Shannon Grubbs officiating. Burial will follow at Erath Gardens of Memory Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 6:00-8:00 p.m., Tuesday, January 12, 2016, at Lacy Funeral Home. Arrangements are by Lacy Funeral Home.

Barbara was born in Wichita Falls, Texas, on April 25, 1937, to John and Thelma (Alair) Smith. She married George W. Swearingen on September 30, 1955, in Rockdale, Texas. She and George lived and traveled extensively while George was in the U.S. Air Force. After they retired, they traveled in their motor home to Canada and all over the United States including Alaska and enjoyed attending blue grass festivals. Barbara was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother and artist who enjoyed painting Texas bluebonnets and landscapes. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

Survivors include her husband, George W. Swearingen of Stephenville, TX; sons, John Swearingen and wife, Sallie, of Boerne, TX, Weldon Swearingen and wife, Dottie, of Keifer, OK, and David Swearingen and wife, Vicky, of Stephenville, TX; brother, Bobby Smith and wife, Joyce, of San Antonio, TX sister, Janice Kirkpatrick and husband, Billy, of Missouri City, TX; several grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and an infant brother, Donny Smith, and grandson; Chris Swearingen.
