Homegrown business owner takes different approach to family tradition

STEPHENVILLE (January 13, 2016) — Brandon Huckabee is carrying on a family tradition of involvement in the construction business.

But Huckabee isn’t building anything at all, other than the latest addition to his family’s local legacy.

“My family has a long history in the construction business,” said Huckabee, whose grandfather, James Huckabee, father, Bill Huckabee and uncles were in the construction business in the 1970s and 1980s. “They started the business, and we’ve had family members involved in construction ever since.”

Huckabee is taking a different approach as a certified home inspector, assisting real estate agents and home buyers alike as Huckabee Inspection Group.

A 1999 Stephenville graduate, Huckabee says he likes to keep the bulk of his business close to home but is also willing to travel.

“The support of this community is overwhelming,” said Huckabee during a crowded ribbon cutting for Huckabee Inspection Group at the Stephenville Chamber of Commerce office downtown Tuesday afternoon. “I do a lot of business here, but I’m also willing to travel up to 60 or 65 miles [one way] for a job if necessary.”

For example, he says Weatherford and Brownwood are in range and he’s even had the occasional job in Arlington and Fort Worth. All his work is guaranteed by the International Association of Certified Home Inspectors.

“We work in Eastland, De Leon, Granbury, all around here, but of course primarily in Stephenville,” Huckabee said.

Huckabee is building one other thing – a family. The homegrown local business owner has a wife, Alyssa, and a 16-month old daughter, Brinley.

“Stephenville is such a great place, I can’t imagine living anywhere else,” said Huckabee, who had family, fraternity brothers and several real estate agents and others who have used his services on hand supporting him Tuesday. “My family is here, our life is here and this is where we want our business to be.”
