STEPHENVILLE (January 22, 2016) —Streets of Urbino—a documentary exploring the walled Città di Urbino, Italy—premiers at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 26, in the Clyde H. Wells Fine Arts Center Theater at Tarleton State University. The free 75-minute screening is open to the public.

Filmed and produced by Assistant Professor of Communication Studies Dr. Robert Anderson, the documentary highlights the travels of Tarleton’s Honors College students last summer to the Città ideale (Ideal City). Streets of Urbino is a collaboration of the Honors College, Department of Communication Studies and the Office of International Programs.

Città di Urbino is a UNESCO World Heritage Site known best for its remarkable historical legacy of Renaissance culture.

Anderson traveled to Urbino and spent a month filming the documentary while students studied the Italian Renaissance and were introduced to the Italian language at the Università degli Studi di Urbino Carlo Bo (University of Urbino).

“Three Tarleton students worked on the film. Josh Duran and Austin Farrar edited more than 3,500 shots to create the finished product,” said Anderson. “Braden Preston filmed in Venice and Rome in addition to contributing post-production help. All three will attend the screening.

“This is our fifth study-abroad feature documentary and, by consensus the best,” Anderson added. “All 14 study-abroad students were interviewed at length in Italy, and their comments on last summer’s experience make up the bulk of the film. In addition, Dr. Craig Clifford performs several songs. We are excited for the premiere of Streets of Urbino.”

Dr. Clifford and Dr. Mallory Young, professor of English and languages, led the summer 2015 Honors College study-abroad program to Italy.

Summer 2015 was the second study-abroad opportunity in Urbino for Tarleton’s honors students. This year, study-abroad programs in Urbino will include course offerings within the departments of fine arts and communication studies. Tarleton President F. Dominic Dottavio traveled with the inaugural Italian study-abroad group and signed an academic exchange agreement between the two universities for students and faculty.

The Università degli Studi di Urbino Carlo Bo dates back to 1506 when Duke Guidobaldo I founded the “Collegio dei Dottori,” and currently has approximately 20,000 students attending classes in a community known as the ideal Renaissance city. Today, the University of Urbino is a state-run institution known for its quality instruction and research, with departments housed in historic buildings of outstanding architectural interest.
