STEPHENVILLE (Jan. 22, 2016) – The Texas State Guard is conducting their sixth-annual disaster relief training exercise in Erath County. Each year Tarleton provides the TXSG with the necessary facilities they need to set-up their center of operations, and conduct a successful training exercise. “Tarleton State’s beneficence and willingness to provide us with their facility has been one of the key factors to the success of this operation,” remarked Brig. Gen. Howard N. Palmer, Jr., Commander of the Army Component Command, Texas State Guard.
These designated trainings based on the Tarleton campus, along with many other training stations displaced throughout the state of Texas, are designed to strengthen emergency response capabilities by training for emergency situations with operations in numerous displaced locations.

“This mission rehearsal demonstrates our soldiers’ abilities to support local emergency operations, run by local officials, during a natural or manmade disaster,” said Palmer. “We are trained to provide skills such as mass care sheltering, emergency communications, ground search and recovery, distribution of food and water and staffing support to disaster district committees.”
