STEPHENVILLE (January 26, 2016) — Carol Taylor knew a few of her students had expressed interest in speaking at the gathering, but she never could have expected this.
But Principal Taylor stood proud, often teary-eyed, as one-by-one, a dozen or more students, a parent and even a member of the faculty shared with every student in attendance Wednesday why they chose Huston Academy, what it means to them and where they hope it leads them further down the journey of life.
It all happened during an assembly to celebrate National School Choice Week, and all were happy they chose not only school, but Huston Academy.
Students spoke of being accepted despite their differences, one-on-one assistance in the classroom and the positive atmosphere as the biggest strengths of Huston Academy. The charter school has grown to include the third largest high school in Erath County behind Stephenville and Dublin.
Students competed in art and essay contests, depicting the meaning of Huston Academy. Yellow scarves commemorating National School Choice Week are being worn all week at the school by students and faculty.
