STEPHENVILLE (March 1, 2016) — Tuesday was a historical day at Stephenville High School.
SHS has had more students go on to compete in college rodeo than anyone probably will ever realize, but this is the first year they have marked such an accomplishment with a signing day.
Just like signees for football, basketball, soccer or any other sport, seniors Lariat Larner and Katie Stewart, each seven-time state rodeo qualifiers, sat at tables, their family gathered around them, a Honeybee banner as a backdrop, and made official their college commitments.
Both Stephenville athletes compete in breakaway roping, goat tying and team roping, both have won numerous saddles and each has been awarded more buckles than they can count. Now, they are both headed to compete in the National Intercollegiate Rodeo Association, Stewart for Coach Mark Eakin and Tarleton State University and Larner for Coach Kerry Doster and South Plains College in Levelland.
