Stephenville struggled from the plate with only 22 hits in four games of classic play in Kennedale last weekend.
The Yellow Jackets defeated Fort Worth Trimble Tech, 2-1, and tied Fort Worth South Hills, 5-5, with eight hits in each of those outings, but had just six total hits in two losses, including only one in a 1-0 shutout against Edgewood and a 3-2 loss to Kennedale.
That’s a win, two one-run losses and a tie, leaving Stephenville just three runs from a perfect 4-0 weekend. But instead, the Jackets had just one extra-base hit, a triple by Seth Heupel as part of a 2-for-2 outing against South Hills, when Cody Storrs was 2-for-3.
Heupel was also 2-for-3 against Kennedale and 5-for-10 for the classic, while Easton Jones was 2-for-3 against Trimble Tech.
Pitching wasn’t the problem as Jacket hurlers combined to surrender just six earned runs – 10 total – on 20 hits over the four games.
Caleb Gibbons yielded just two hits in six innings of work against Trimble Tech, and Jones had 4.1 shutout innings with just one hit against Edgewood. Brock Morrison went all five innings and surrendered three runs on seven hits against traditional power Kennedale, and Jones returned to allow two runs on four hits over four innings against South Hills.
