Arlis was a long-time Southern Baptist Sunday School and Bible study teacher, church pianist, and school cafeteria manager at Higley Elementary School, Higley, Arizona, for fifteen years.

She was born in Peacock, Texas, on Feb. 3, 1921, to John P. Gray and Lula Ophelia (Buntin) Gray. In 1937, at age 16, she married a boy she’d met at Double Mountain Baptist Church, Sam Ross. Sam passed away on June 25, 2001.

By coincidence she reconnected with J.D. Parker ý who had been her first grade boyfriend in Aspermont, Texas. Two years later they were married on Aug. 14, 2003, and he preceded her in death on May 25, 2009.

Survivors include her children, Susan Neely and husband, Doug, of Stephenville and J. Michael Ross of Stephenville; granddaughter, Kim Ray and her children, Amber Riley and Zane Ray; granddaughter, Ashleigh Chu and her husband, Dan, and their children, Graham Chu and Evan Chu; and Arlis’ twin sisters; Juana Rash of Aspermont, Texas, and Swanna Flowers of Hobbs, New Mexico.
