(December 15, 1912 – June 7, 2016)

Ruby Ellen Griffith Smith, born December 15, 1912 in Rhyan, Oklahoma, passed away June 7, 2016 in Hico.

Ruby married Ramon George Smith in 1933. He passed away in December, 1981. They had been married for 49 years, 1 month and 11 days. Ruby was a wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great grandmother, a Methodist, and belonged to The Order of the Eastern Star.

She lived in Oklahoma part of her childhood and moved to Texas where she attended North Side High School in Ft. Worth. She was on the varsity basketball team and loved the sport.

After marrying George, they lived in Ft. Worth, Lawton, OK, a short time in California, and Granbury. Ruby lived alone in Granbury and moved to Hico in 1987. Ruby was retired from Monnings Department Store in Ft. Worth, where she was a Revlon Cosmetician. She enjoyed gardening and yard work, shopping, painting, cards, dominoes, bingo, and spoiling her grandkids.

In her older years she still took care of her yard and also would help the “old” lady neighbors who were her friends (they were younger than her). For over 50 years she was known to friends and family as “Granny” or “Granny Smith.” She started driving when she was 12 and let her license expire when she turned 100. T-shirts were made for her 100th birthday that said, “Beauty, Laughter Wisdom, Love.” This is how we described her.

Ruby was preceded in death by her husband; her parents, Thomas Eugene Griffith and Natalie Mae Hoffman Griffith. Daughters, Cynthia Anita (stillborn) and Vicki Kathleen Smith McIntyre in 2008 Son -in-law Noah Gene McIntyre. Brothers, Claude, Herman and Lewis Griffith. Sisters, Stella and Lillian.

She is survived by son and daughter-in-law, Michael & Marie Smith of Hico. Grandchildren: Michael Smith & wife, Jodi, of Greasy, OK; Stephanie Mitchell & husband, Lewis, of Madisonville, Texas; Wednesday Smith Epley & husband Mike, of Hico; and Thomas McIntyre of Houston.
