Nine area athletes start strong at THSRA finals

(June 9, 2016) — Several local athletes are off to strong starts at the Texas High School Rodeo Association finals, taking place this week at Taylor County Expo Center in Abilene.

Catherine Clayton had the best start, winning the first round of goat tying in 7.09 seconds, while Presli Bray split first and second in 2.13 seconds in the breakaway roping.

Clint Mayo stayed in good position with a score of 74 for second place in the opening go-round of bareback riding, while Sy Felton and Paden Bray are eighth and 10th in calf roping with times of 9.60 and 9.63.

In team roping, Ty Harris and Paden Bray were fifth in the first round in 6.84. Wyatt Bray and Ky Redstrom took 10th in 7.65.
