STEPHENVILLE (June 27, 2016) — Stephenville is making its 12th appearance at the Adidas Texas 7-on-7 Football Championships, including its fifth consecutive appearance in the Division II field.
The Yellow Jackets join El Campo, Tyler Grace Community and La Grange in Pool O of the tournament, with pool play set for Thursday, July 7, and bracket play for Friday, July 8, at Veterans Park and Athletic Complex (3101 Harvey Road) in College Station.
Stephenville will be competing on Field 10 at 2, 4 and 6 p.m. on July 7. The Jackets meet La Grange first, followed by Grace Community and finally El Campo. Stephenville defeated El Campo 70-35 in the 2012 3A Division I championship game.
Each team advances to bracket play with the top two teams from each pool headed to the championship bracket and the bottom two moving to the consolation bracket.
Stephenville has qualified for state every summer since moving to Division II (when SHS moved from what is now 5A to what is now 4A in 2012) and has reached 11 of the last 12 events dating back to 2005. The only year SHS missed state during that stretch was in 2011, the last year it would have competed in Division I. The Yellow Jackets first qualified for the event in 1998.
