STEPHENVILLE (August 22, 2016) — Legendary Tarleton State men’s basketball coach and athletic director Lonn Reisman has revealed in a letter to fans that he has been diagnosed with a treatable stage of prostate cancer. Reisman’s letter, published by Tarleton Athletic Communications at TarletonSports.com is below:

To all Tarleton students, faculty, staff, alumni, fans and friends:

This summer I was diagnosed with prostate cancer. Thankfully, my team of doctors and I believe we discovered this early and I was assured it is very treatable. As I have already told my players and staff – I will beat this disease.

Dr. Carrington Mason and his excellent staff at Methodist Dallas Medical Center have done a tremendous job in guiding me through this process. Dr. Mason is one of the top Urologists in the country. I have not made a decision on the direction I will take for treatment, but just know I’m going to battle through this like I have battled my whole career in coaching your Texans.

I will continue to coach this season during my treatment. I have always said I have the best staff in the country and know everything will continue to run smoothly during this phase in my life.

I’m excited about this upcoming season and can’t wait to get to work on coaching these young men. I thank you all for your prayers and support during this time and look forward to seeing you at all Tarleton athletic events.

Bleed Purple,

Lonn Reisman
