CLEBURNE (August 26, 2016) — Quarterback Tre’Veon Bradley accounted for almost 600 yards and Cleburne amassed 713 in total offense to out-gun Stephenville 66-40 at Yellowjacket Stadium Friday.

Bradley and running back Isaiah Romero – 130 yards and 3 TDs – were enough to overshadow a four touchdown night by Stephenville senior Cameron Frazier and 164 yards rushing with another 102 receiving by sophomore running back Krece Nowak.

Bradley scored on runs of 18, 50, 51, 50 and 80 yards on his way to 423 yards rushing and was 15-22 passing for 135 yards, giving him  hand in 558 total yards. He and Romero combined to have a hand in 698 yards.

Frazier scored on a 29 yard reception to get Stephenville on the board early in the second, and added touchdowns on three carries of two yards or less out of a goal line offense. Nowak scored on an 85-yard screen pass and a 19 yard rush on his way to 266 total yards of offense in his varsity debut.

Stephenville quarterback Easton Jones was 21-38 passing for 307 yards and the two TDs while also being picked off twice. The junior also rushed eight times for 95 yards, accounting for 402 yards of total offense. Stephenville totaled 627 yards.

Cleburne turned four Stephenville turnovers into 28 points, and Stephenville had one touchdown waved off for offensive pass interference, and Jones missed an open Frazier behind the defense on fourth down to stall another drive. It was the same play on which Jones hit Frazier for a 29-yard score on a fourth-down play early in the second quarter.

The teams combined for 45 points in the second, with Cleburne leading 39-20 at the half.

The third TD by Frazier made it 39-27 early in the third quarter, and Stephenville followed it up with a stop before turning the ball over and watching Bradley score two plays later to send Cleburne racing toward victory.

It’s the first time the teams have played this decade and the first time Cleburne has defeated Stephenville since 1988, ending a scattered streak of 11 straight Stephenville wins in the series.

Stephenville has its home opener against Springtown on deck next Frieday. Springtown was also involved in an offensive firework show in its season opener, falling 74-44 to Decatur.

  1. It is amazing how the officials (especially the referee) allowed Cleburne to repeatedly commit defensive pass interference with NO penalties. Unbelievable. Am I missing something?
