Jackets first, Bees second in 4A divisions of Elk Run



(September 2, 2016) — Stephenville rushed into cross country season Friday, with the Yellow Jackets taking first and the Honeybees second in the 4A and under divisions of the Elk Run at Chisenhall Park in Burleson.

The Yellow Jackets and other boys competitors ran one race for all divisions then divided places by classification. Competing against almost 150 runners from schools as large as 6A, Lane Rust was the 21st finisher in 17 minutes, 29.67 seconds, with Luis Carrillo six spots and almost 15 seconds behind him. Gilberto Garcia and Christian Brown were 34th and 39th, respectively, and Gustavo Vazquez rounding out the scoring in 65th.

The Jackets were sixth in the overall competition in addition to being the top team in 4A and below.

The Honeybees, running against other 4A and below competitors, had four of the first 10 finishers. Anahi Rivas was fifth and Emily Kirbo sixth in 13:23.87 and 13:26.41. Elena Balderas was ninth, Avery Forehand 10th and Matie Stephens 11th to complete the scorecard.

The Bees scored 41 points, second only to state powerhouse Brock, which took places 2-4 then held off Stephenville by finishing with 36 points.
