STEPHENVILLE (November 5, 2016) — Tarleton State has lost another student-athlete to a tragic car accident.

McKenzie Denay Cox, 18, a Zephyr resident, 2016 Brownwood High School graduate and freshman track and field athlete at Tarleton, was killed in a single-vehicle accident in Comanche County Friday.

Cox, according to a report from Texas Department of Public Safety Public Information Officer Frederick Biddle, was traveling west on US Highway 67 about nine miles west of Comanche when she lost control of her vehicle. Cox was not wearing a seat belt, according to the report, and was ejected from the 2004 Ford passenger car, which rolled over. No further details are immediately available and the crash is still under investigation.

Cox was pronounced dead at 6:54 p.m. Friday at Brownwood Regional Medical Center.

Tarleton athletic director Lonn Reisman said he could not make an official comment late Friday night but that a statement would be released from the athletics department.
