STEPHENVILLE (December 18, 2016) – After the excitement of Christmas Day passes, parents often find themselves searching for ways to keep their children entertained during winter break. STAR Council has the perfect thing to fight the “ho-hum” and humdrum.

The nonprofit agency hosts its annual two-day winter camp from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. Wednesday, December 28 and Thursday, December 29 in the Foster’s Home for Children Gym.

The event is open to children ages 6 to 10 and provided at no cost.

Rhyland Ramirez, director of prevention for STAR Council, said the agency hosts camps in the winter, spring and summer with the mission of providing children a safe, supervised environment while their parents and caregivers are at work.

“We play a lot of games, do crafts, provide healthy snacks and try to include a little education related to team work and leadership skills,” Ramirez said.

The fun, fellowship and food – lunch is also served – is provided to area families and other children wo are in the area to visit family at no cost, but reservations are required.

Ramirez said openings remain, but she encouraged parents to call 254-965-5515 immediately since space is limited. Reservations can be made during regular business hours Monday through Friday. The STAR Council offices will be closed December 23 through 26 for the Christmas holiday.
