STEPHENVILLE (December 21, 2016) — Tarleton State offensive coordinator Mason Miller is leaving for Nevada.

Miller, also quarterbacks coach for the Texans, confirmed the move by direct message on Twitter Wednesday morning after Nevada media reported it on Tuesday.

“It’s been a pleasure working alongside Mason Miller,” said Tarleton head coach Todd Whitten. “Mason is a tremendous coach and he brought a wealth of knowledge to our coaching staff. This is a great opportunity for Mason and his family. I wish him all the best at the University of Nevada.”

Miller said in the messages that he has not signed anything yet but that his best friend, Stephenville native Matt Mumme, is now the offensive coordinator at Nevada under newly hired head coach Jay Norvell. The Wolf Pack, members of the Division I FBS and Mountain Conference, were 5-7 in 2016.

“To be honest it was tough because I enjoyed working with Todd,” Miller said in the messages. “And I love Tarleton State (and) Coach (Athletic Director) (Lonn) Reisman…Everything about (Tarleton) is awesome.”

Miller came to Tarleton in 2014 and the Texans produced the No. 3 offense in the nation that fall at 522.8 yards per game. He served as offensive line coach before taking over play calling duties and quarterbacks.

Tarleton was 5-6 in 2016, the first season of Whitten’s third stint as head coach of the Texans. It was a two-win improvement after going 3-8 in the their last season under former head coach Cary Fowler.

Miller and his wife, Meagan, have two daughters, Madison and Mallory.
