Thedis E. ‘Woody’ Wood, 94, of Stephenville, passed away Sunday, December 25, 2016 in Granbury.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM Thursday, December 29th at Graham Street Church of Christ. Burial will follow at Gardens of Memory Cemetery. Visitation will be 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM Wednesday at Stephenville Funeral Home.
Thedis was born on November 29, 1922 in Kirkland, Texas to the late Robley Wilburn and Mamie Richeson Wood. He married Bonnie Griffin on July 31, 1949 in Abilene. Thedis attended Abilene Christian College/University where he received his bachelor’s degree in divinity. During WWII, because he wasn’t physically able to join the military, he spent his time in California building military aircraft. He coached and taught school, with his first school teaching and coaching in Tolar, and he also served this area as a Church of Christ minister. He served over ten years as an elder at Graham Street Church of Christ. He and Bonnie lived several years in Texas City and lived for ten years in Temple, where he served as a Church of Christ Minister in the community of Heidenheimer, TX. Thedis and his family moved to Stephenville in 1968. He served as camp director for over 42 years for Camp Paluxy in Bluff Dale and also spent some time selling real estate.
Survivors include his wife, Bonnie; children, Rugene and husband Bobby Gentry of Weatherford, Teresa and husband Bruce Musgrave of Bluff Dale, and Lyndal and wife Danette Wood of Dallas; grandchildren, Kathy Gentry, Amanda and husband Caleb Medlin, Raven and husband Carlon King, Jana and husband Dean Lee, Sheena and husband Keith Sihvonen, Cassandra and husband Josh Nigo, Matthew Wood, Michael Wood, Cameron and wife Sara Berges, Chelsea Berges, and Brittany and husband Richard Fossum; great grandchildren, Jaron, Rylan, Melody, Eon, Aspen, Reed, Avery, Megan, Micah, Emma and Jocelyn; sister, Alva Marie Roberson of Lubbock; nephew, Monty and wife Veanna Roberson, and sister-in-law, Maxine Fultz of Lubbock.
Besides his parents, Thedis was also preceded in death by an infant son, David Earl Wood; foster son, Nolan Kitchens; brother-in-law, Lem Roberson; and nephew, Jerry Roberson.
