It started as emergency call reporting a burglary in progress around 8:10 p.m. on Saturday. The reporting person told a police dispatcher two black males forcibly entered a home in the 1800 block of Paddock Street, possibly wearing masks and carrying guns.
Those men have not been located or identified, but Stephenville Police believe there was nothing random about the incident. They purported burglars were believed to have left in an older model pickup.
An investigation following the 9-1-1 call uncovered cocaine and marijuana inside of the home, and Police Chief Jason King provided information that led to the arrest of one resident and the ongoing search for Jamorian Deshawn Newman, 21, also believed to live at the Paddock Street duplex.
When police arrived at the scene, three people, described as two black men and a black female, were outside of the residence. King said one of the men, later identified as Newman, quickly took off running.
“Because of the nature of the crime, officers cleared the house and made sure nobody was inside the home or injured,” King said. “Upon entering, they saw evidence of narcotics possession.”
The department’s criminal investigation and narcotics units were called to the scene and a search warrant for the residence was obtained.
“While searching the home, investigators found more than a gram of cocaine and approximately 12 pounds of marijuana,” King said.
Terrence Germil Jordon, 19, who remained at the scene when Newman fled, was detained and arrested for possession of more than five pounds but less than 50 pounds of marijuana, a third-degree felony, and possession of more than one gram but less than four grams of cocaine, a second-degree felony.
He was released from the Erath County Jail after posting a combined bond of $20,000.
The female, who was not identified, was a visitor at the home and not placed under arrest.
Meanwhile, police obtained a warrant for Newman’s arrest for third-degree marijuana possession.
In addition to seeking the public’s assistance in locating Newman, King is asking for anyone with information on the two males who broke into the home to call Stephenville Police or Erath County Crime Stoppers (ECCS) with information.
“Mr. Jordan, the one resident we have spoken with, has thus far been uncooperative in the investigation,” King said.
ECCS operates a 24/7 tip line, 254-965-CASH (2274) and will pay up to $1,000 cash for tips leading to an arrest, conviction or recovery of stolen property. Callers will not be asked their name and will remain anonymous.
